Regional Rail Revival program upgrading every regional passenger rail line in Victoria

In Victoria, Australia, the biggest transport construction program in the State’s history is underway. Victoria’s Big Build is a program of major rail, road, tunnel and active transport upgrades to the State’s transport network, creating tens of thousands of jobs.

Rail Projects Victoria is the Victorian Government body responsible for the delivery of Melbourne Airport Rail, the Metro Tunnel Project, Regional Rail Revival, Sunbury Line Upgrade and the Western Rail Plan.

The Australian and Victorian governments have invested more than $2 billion in Regional Rail Revival, that is upgrading every regional passenger rail line in Victoria. The rail projects will improve the reliability of the regional rail network, enhance the passenger experience and invigorate local economies.

Aurecon, in joint venture with Jacobs and Mott MacDonald, is providing technical advice to Rail Projects Victoria for Regional Rail Revival. This is in addition to undertaking the same role on the Metro Tunnel Project, Geelong Fast Rail and Melbourne Airport Rail.

The joint venture is completing the high-level engineering design, exploring the benefits, challenges and impacts of the individual scope for each rail line corridor. Upgrade works include new platforms, additional track, enhancements to station amenities and stabling facilities, as well as improved signalling and track.

The program includes upgrades on the following rail lines:

Regional Rail Revival is delivering major upgrades to every regional passenger line in Victoria and creating more than 1000 jobs. It will improve the rail public transport services and amenities for regional communities throughout Victoria.
