In Aotearoa New Zealand, work is underway on a major new growth area south of Auckland, at Drury. Over the next 30 years, an additional 120,000 people are expected to live in future communities in Takaanini, Opaheke, Drury, Paerātā and Pukekohe. The southern growth area will be transformed into a vibrant residential and business hub, with 40,000 new homes and 38,000 new jobs.
New stations at Drury Central, Ngākōroa, and Paerātā will improve travel access, reduce emissions, and support Auckland’s growing southern communities.
More ways to travel
To ensure this fast-growing part of Auckland has access to better travel choices that help people get to where they’re going safely, KiwiRail are delivering three new rail stations at Drury Central (a brownfield site), Ngākōroa and Paerātā (both greenfield sites). The new stations are being delivered in parallel with the electrification of the rail network between Papakura and Pukekohe, and will be operated and maintained by Auckland Transport.
The new stations will include a bus interchange and park and ride facilities, and will allow for connecting walking and cycle paths.
Funded by the New Zealand Government through the NZD 8.7 billion New Zealand Upgrade Programme, Drury Rail Stations is one of a $1.5 billion suite of projects to modernise the rail network in New Zealand’s largest city.
