04 May 2018 - For over 60 years, global engineering and infrastructure advisory company Aurecon has been designing and delivering some of the most iconic landmarks in South Australia.

The University of South Australia’s Pridham Hall, the Adelaide Convention Centre, Adelaide Oval and the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute are just a few recent examples of how the company has become part of the fabric of the city and the state of South Australia.

Aurecon was recently recognised for this contribution to the state’s built environment with the award of Property Business of the Year, South Australia, from the Property Council of Australia (PCA).

Accepting the award, Aurecon’s Built Environment Leader for South Australia and Victoria, Ralph Belperio, said that it was not only an honour to be recognised for the contribution Aurecon had made to the community over the past six decades, but it also acknowledges the future focus of the company.

Future ready

“We have undergone a significant business transformation over the past few years, to ensure we are future-ready to help our clients with the challenges ahead,” Belperio said.

“The digital disruption taking place all around us is having a major impact on the built environment. Our focus is on bringing clients our design-thinking capabilities, such as smart buildings of the future that minimise the impact on our environment, and are places where people want to live, study and work.

“Contributing to the improvement of economic prosperity, social cohesion and the physical environment of South Australia is our way of helping our state become future ready, and we are immensely proud of the legacy we are leaving for future generations,” added Belperio.

The PCA award follows other recent accolades for the company, such as being ranked the 5th Most Innovative Company in Australia and New Zealand by the Australian Financial Review, ahead of any other company active in the property industry; and the 2016 award for the Best South Australian Firm (in all categories) in the Australian Financial Review Client Choice Awards.

Outstanding commitment to people

The PCA award not only recognises contributions to the property landscape through iconic landmarks, it also awards companies for demonstrating an outstanding commitment to their people.

Aurecon boasts comprehensive programmes of professional development, such as the Aurecon Design Academy, and a commitment to all roles having flexible working arrangements, to encourage a future-ready mindset, design-led thinking and unconventional approaches to work and life.

Aurecon was recently ranked by LinkedIn amongst the top 25 places where people want to work in Australia. Debuting at number 23, Aurecon was the only engineering consulting firm to make the list, which recognises the company’s ability to attract and retain talent.

Community contribution

The PCA award also acknowledges community contribution, with Aurecon demonstrating a significant commitment to diversity and inclusion, as well as community capacity-building.

Aurecon’s Diversity and Inclusion Manager, Abbie Wright, who is based in Adelaide, is widely recognised for her contribution to the community and is a board member of the Diversity Council of Australia.

Aurecon encourages high school students to consider careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) through the Aurecon Bridge Building Competition. The competition gives participants ‘real-world’ experience of what students can look forward to as future engineering students and professionals.

In bestowing the award, PCA’s South Australian Executive Director Daniel Gannon said: “The judges agreed that Aurecon’s commitment to developing and supporting their staff has contributed to a culture of success and made them a top ‘employer of choice’ for new graduates.”
