Adelaide Oval Redevelopment, Australia

Transformed into 21st century stadium

The Adelaide Oval redevelopment project which began in 2009 transformed Adelaide Oval into a 21st century stadium, providing a unique 53 500 person facility to host cricket, Australian Football League (AFL) and other major events.

The project included the construction of a new 15 000 person southern stand, 18 000 person eastern stand, a new entry plaza as well as basement car parking and an indoor training facility.

Aurecon provided a range of building services design including new electrical, fire and hydraulic infrastructure; extensive communications and outside broadcast infrastructure; specialist lighting, and escalators and lifts to support large scale people and goods movement.

Aurecon also provided support to AECOM in the delivery of new mechanical central plant and air-conditioning throughout the many corporate and public facilities.

The use of the latest Building Information Modelling (BIM) design and modelling tools from concept through to construction allowed a full representation of venue characteristics, ensuring optimised design, clear communication of design intent, and sustainable long term outcomes for the client, Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure as well as Adelaide Oval Ltd (AOSMA).

The ultimate goal was to provide an enhanced game day experience through the provision of high quality amenities securing its future as a leading sports venue.
