Aurecon strengthens transport planning team to address rapid urbanisation challenges

Aurecon names new key transport planning leaders and specialists in four of Australia’s major cities.

Aurecon's appointments are geared to help alleviate transport woes in Australia

07 June 2018 – In a move to alleviate transport woes being experienced by communities around Australia, global engineering and infrastructure advisory company Aurecon has strengthened its Transport Planning capability through the appointment of new key transport planning leaders and specialists in four of Australia’s major cities.

While populations continue to rise and rapid urbanisation shows no signs of letting up, good transport choices and community planning have never been more crucial to improving people’s urban mobility. As our cities continue to grow, we will increasingly rely on technology and data insights to enable the safe and efficient movement of people and goods. This will need to be planned carefully to develop communities and cities we are proud to live in.

Aurecon’s transport planning leaders will help clients and partners solve complex challenges, while making it their priority to integrate transport with place, and utilising emerging technology to provide exceptional ‘end-to-end’ customer journeys.

To complement the business’ Transport Planning focus, Aurecon’s Hoa Nguyen has been appointed to lead on the company’s Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) ANZ Systems operations. Blair Monk remains at the wheel of Aurecon’s ITS strategy for Australia and New Zealand.

Previously, Linke was a transport consultant at Jacobs where she consulted on projects such as the Forrestfield-Airport Link and the Cranbourne to Pakenham Line rail corridor upgrade. She has worked in Malaysia, where she managed projects including the design and delivery of the KL Sentral Station – MRT Linkway, and the upgrade of the Bukit Jalil National Stadium and Sports Complex.

Linke is now leading the operational modelling for the Melbourne Metro Tunnel project, as part of a joint venture between Aurecon, Jacobs, and Mott MacDonald.

What excites you most about the future of transport planning?

We have some big challenges ahead to improve the way people live and move in and between our cities. At Aurecon, we have access to a toolkit of better data, innovative transport technologies, and robust engineering and design thinking to solve these problems. It’s an exciting time to work in transport!

Ian McCarthy has joined the Aurecon team as Transport Planning Leader for New South Wales. He is passionate about innovation, transport technology and infrastructure projects, and looks forward to tackling new and increasingly complex transport challenges with Aurecon.

McCarthy was previously the Senior Manager of the Network Development team at Roads and Maritime Services (RMS), and oversaw the development and delivery of multimodal road network projects for the past three years.

His portfolio includes a diverse range of infrastructure planning projects including being part of the route selection, environmental approvals and business case developments for Sydney’s WestConnex, Sydney Metro NW, as well as Sydney CBD and SE Light Rail. McCarthy has also helped develop a number of major precincts within NSW ‒ notably Sydney Airport.

How do you see technology influencing the way our transport systems work?

I think technology opens doors for us to completely reimagine how we plan, operate and maintain transport infrastructure into the future. Our transport systems are becoming increasingly integrated with the digital world, and the data allows us to easily observe trends and interrogate customer experience. Continual improvement in cognitive technology and the automation of transport will result in networks becoming more intelligent, with greater levels of integration between transport systems.
