Asia Pacific engineering consultancy Aurecon has appointed energy infrastructure executive Claire Cass, strengthening the company’s leadership in electricity networks and major transmission infrastructure.
Cass joins Aurecon as an Industry Director following senior roles with VicGrid and the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), where her work spanned major transmission projects, network access and connections, industry and community engagement around new infrastructure.

At AEMO, Cass worked on major electricity transmission projects including the Western Renewables Link and VNI West. She subsequently served as Executive Director, Access and Connections at VicGrid, in an industry-facing role focused on helping maintain investment confidence and attract investment into Victoria’s electricity system.
Cass brings deep technical expertise in electricity networks and experience in connecting new renewable generation and storage to the grid, alongside extensive experience working with communities hosting major transmission infrastructure.
She said the scale and pace of change in Australia’s electricity system made this an important time to return to a national role.
“I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with industry and communities on some of Victoria’s most significant transmission challenges. I’m looking forward to taking that experience back to a national level and helping clients navigate what comes next across Australia,” Cass said.
“Building the infrastructure Australia needs isn’t only a technical challenge. We need to understand the needs and concerns of the communities that host this infrastructure and work with them to genuinely mitigate the impacts.”
Her appointment comes as new sources of electricity demand, including data centres, increase the demand for electricity and new infrastructure.
Paul Gleeson, Managing Director, Energy at Aurecon said Cass’ technical network expertise, experience in renewables and storage, major project experience and understanding of communities would complement Aurecon’s existing energy leadership.
“Claire understands electricity networks deeply, including what it takes to connect new renewable generation and storage to the network; but she also understands that successfully delivering major infrastructure depends on people. Her experience engaging with industry, regional communities and Traditional Owners brings an important perspective to the complex transmission challenges our clients are navigating.”
Cass has worked across Australia during her career, including all states and territories and will bring that national perspective to her role at Aurecon.
