As cities are central to modern civilisation, then transport corridors, such as roads, are the beating heart, supporting the movement of people and goods. Roads tie communities together, enabling education, work, family connections and economies to thrive.
Maintaining and rehabilitating roads to ensure a network runs smoothly requires continuous and substantial investment. In Sydney, New South Wales, the challenge of sustaining vital road infrastructure has led to a transformative shift in how maintenance, renewal, and modernisation investments are planned and executed.
This transformative shift is crucial to preserving vital assets and meeting the evolving needs of community and stakeholders.
Recognising the significance of this issue, Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) introduced SRAPC Contract to deliver essential road asset maintenance. As the design partner of ConnectSydney for this contract, Aurecon is engineering long-term asset performance program within the Harbour Zone.
This program ensures the ongoing quality of 971 km of roads, spanning from the northern and southern beaches to the City of Sydney. The contract includes:
- Maintenance of roads, bridge, culverts, slopes and traffic signals
- Maintenance projects such as road resurfacing, bridge painting, slope rehabilitation and culvert relining
- Minor capital improvement works such as left turn lane extensions, traffic signals upgrades and new variable message sign installations
- Road-related traffic incident clearance and event management.
By maintaining and rehabilitating transport corridors, Aurecon, as design partner to ConnectSydney, is supporting TfNSW to create safer travel conditions for pedestrians and drivers and deliver sustainable and long-term reductions in road trauma through upgrades of the existing road network.
