Aurecon’s Managing Director, Built Environment, Tim Spies, said that one of the most significant changes that occurred because of the pandemic was the broadening of the meaning of the term ‘property’.
“Once confined to the notion of an entity or entities owned by people or organisations that deliver a return on investment, in a post-pandemic world, the social and intangible value of such entities, and their connection with people and place, has become even more fundamental,” Spies said.
For three years, people’s lives became intrinsically entwined with the properties they inhabited during ongoing lockdowns and restrictions. During this time, engagement with our homes, offices, schools, universities, hospitals, public buildings, hospitality venues and countless other properties, changed forever.
No longer is their function delineated and clearly defined. Every property with which we engage needs to keep us healthy, safe, nurtured, connected, inspired, educated, productive and entertained, 24/7.
“Coming out of the pandemic, we have realised the growing importance of this holistic nature of property and how it can no longer be considered in isolation. Property is ‘organic’, activated and ever evolving, providing places for people to both self-nurture and connect with others and the world around them,” Spies said.
Aurecon’s Industry Leader, Property & Place, Joseph Presti, said that Aurecon was honoured to be involved in advocating for this industry that is integral to the prosperity, health and well-being of Australians.
“Our advisory and engineering professionals will be able to support the continuing growth of the sector, through their involvement on a diverse range of committees across every Australian state,” Presti said.
