Tanya de Hoog, Chief Engineering, Eminence and Innovation Officer of Asia Pacific engineering consultancy Aurecon, has been elected a Fellow of the prestigious Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE). The appointment recognises de Hoog’s global leadership in shaping the future of the engineering profession.

De Hoog is among 34 leading innovators elected to the 2026 ATSE Fellowship, which represents Australia's highest honour for applied science, technology and engineering excellence. "Becoming a Fellow is an immense honour and it is an opportunity to translate what I've learned across the UK, US and Australia into broader benefit for industry, academia, government and the Australian public, particularly in trusted technology adoption, climate resilience and building a diverse STEM workforce," said de Hoog.

"Australia's future depends on how well we lead through science, engineering and technology. As climate pressure, AI, workforce change and growing delivery complexity reshape our profession and our communities, I want to continue to bring practical experience, international perspective and systems level thinking to help shape that future,” she added.

De Hoog’s election as an ATSE Fellow recognises her ongoing role in actively changing, evolving and leading the engineering profession to deliver better, more efficient and positive outcomes for society and the environment.

Since returning to Australia two years ago, de Hoog has demonstrated the breadth and pace of impact that has defined her career internationally, combining technical leadership with a strong focus on raising the profile, capability and influence of the engineering profession.

De Hoog has driven initiatives to lift technical standards across a business of thousands of engineers at Aurecon, while building an international profile as one of the structural engineering profession's most influential voices, actively shaping the profession and building bridges between industry, government and the public.

Aurecon has a longstanding relationship with ATSE, reflecting the organisation’s strong focus on technical excellence, engineering expertise and sharing knowledge to help address complex challenges facing Australia and the broader Asia Pacific region.

De Hoog joins current and former Aurecon leaders as ATSE Fellows including Aurecon CEO Louise Adams, Bill Cox and Tony Barry.

"To see another Aurecon leader join the ATSE Fellowship reflects our belief that engineering expertise has an important role to play in shaping the future of our profession."

Louise Adams, CEO, Aurecon

Congratulating de Hoog on her fellowship, Louise Adams, CEO of Aurecon, said Tanya's election as an ATSE Fellow is a proud moment for Aurecon and reflects the calibre of Tanya’s leadership within the global engineering community.

“As an ATSE Fellow myself, I know the significance of being recognised by an organisation that brings together some of Australia’s leading minds in science, technology and engineering,” Adams said.

“Engineering plays an essential role in protecting communities and improving lives, and with Tanya’s ability to connect and communicate inside and beyond the engineering profession, I’m sure – through her ongoing work at Aurecon and as an ATSE Fellow – Tanya will make an important contribution to national conversations and strengthen how the public understands and values the role of engineers,” Adams added.

“It is particularly meaningful to see another Aurecon leader join the ATSE Fellowship. It reflects the depth of eminence across Aurecon and our belief that engineering expertise has an important role to play in shaping the future of our profession and contributing to the challenges facing society,” Adams said.

ATSE's Fellowship recognises Australia's leading applied scientists, technologists and engineers for their contribution to solving the nation's most complex challenges. ATSE Fellows are elected by their peers in recognition of their outstanding contribution to technology and engineering and their potential to contribute to the Academy’s work. De Hoog’s election recognises a career dedicated to technical excellence and to using engineering to create better outcomes for society and the environment.

De Hoog will be formally inducted at the 2026 ATSE New Fellows Showcase held in Sydney on 28 October 2026.
