Aurecon appoints Nicolas Renon to grow its energy and advisory business in Asia

Nicolas Renon will be supporting Stephane Asselin as Managing Principal, Advisory – Southeast Asia and Managing Director, Energy – Asia.

9 June 2022 – International design, engineering and advisory company Aurecon has appointed Nicolas Renon as its new Managing Principal, Advisory – Southeast Asia and Managing Director, Energy – Asia. Nicolas will be based in Singapore and will report directly to Stephane Asselin, Chief Executive, Asia.

This appointment is part of Aurecon’s concerted investment and expansion across Asia and reaffirms the company’s commitment to support clients in building a greener future. As the focus on energy security, transition and sustainability pushes demand for renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure in Asia, the region remains a key pillar of Aurecon’s overall growth strategy.

Being home to more than half of the world’s population, Asia accounts for over 40 percent of global energy consumption and has been making good progress towards energy transition. Its Energy Transition Index for 2021 improved at the fastest rate of 6 percent over the past decade, surpassing all other regions in the world.

Many countries in Asia have announced more aggressive climate pledges, including China committing to become carbon neutral by 2060, Malaysia by 2050 and Singapore to achieve net zero emissions by or around 2050. Southeast Asian countries have also committed to a target of renewable energy accounting for 23 percent of the total primary energy supply by 2025. Given that investment activity in green energy has doubled over the last decade and continues to accelerate in Asia, Aurecon is well placed to expand its energy and advisory expertise in the region.

Stephane Asselin, Chief Executive, Aurecon Asia said, “As Asia combats the effects of climate change, many governments and businesses in the region are paying greater attention to environmental and sustainability efforts with added urgency. This renewed focus brings great potential for our business growth here. Being a proven energy and infrastructure expert who has an intimate knowledge of Asia, Nicolas will enable us to deliver differentiated and innovative solutions for our clients in a dynamic and competitive market. His deep international experience and strong business acumen will position us well to seize new growth opportunities for our energy and advisory business in Asia.”

Nicolas’ appointment further reinforces Aurecon’s drive toward expanding its advisory business internationally. Julian Dolby, Group Managing Principal, Advisory at Aurecon said, “We are delighted to have Nicolas on board. His appointment will allow us to leverage the full breadth of our advisory capabilities, adding value for our clients in Asia throughout their business and asset lifecycle. With the energy industry also embracing digital practices and solutions, our advisory expertise complemented by robust digital and data capabilities will help our clients to better manage emerging risks such as energy security and will enable them to elevate their business to the next level.”
