We aim to improve the gender balance and gender equality of our leaders and workforce. We do this for each Aurecon employee, for Aurecon, for our clients and for the communities in which we live, work and play.
Aurecon holds an Employer of Choice for Gender Equality (EOCGE) citation from the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA). We use this citation – received for our commitment to promoting gender equality in Australian workplaces – as a framework for our gender equality strategy across our geographic regions.
Louise Adams, Aurecon’s Chief Executive Officer, and Todd Battley, Chief Executive Australia are active members of the Champions of Change initiative, specifically within the Champions of Change Consult Australia and STEM Groups.
We are also a WORK180 Endorsed Employer for 2026, which recognises our commitment to ongoing progress towards gender equality.
In Aotearoa New Zealand, Aurecon is backing its commitment to reaching gender equality in the workplace through:
Being committed means being part of a journey, to disrupt gender expectations and norms and seek genuine choice and opportunity for all employees, where we continue to make progress.
Maintain our Employer of Choice citation in Australia
Ensure a gender lens over the employee lifecycle
Increase workforce and leadership gender representation
Conduct pay parity audits and remedy any emerging gaps
Encourage more men to take parental leave and work part-time in Australia and New Zealand
Support life stages
Support and encourage courageous conversations
Implement a policy to support victims/survivors of domestic and family violence in Australia and New Zealand and give support as needed in Asia
Act to prevent and respond to sexism and sexual harassment
Aurecon conducts an annual review and remedies any emerging gaps.
Aurecon is a Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) Pay Equity Ambassador, having signed the Pay Equity Pledge.
We seek to close the gap between the median and average wages of all women and the median and average wages of all men within Aurecon, inclusive of position and employment status. Learn more
Aurecon is building a culture of genuine inclusion to support the success of women in the organisation. To increase female representation, Aurecon’s actions range from recruitment through to progression and retention. Aurecon sets targets to accelerate change. Targets bring a spotlight to barriers to recruitment and progression and encourage deliberate behaviour to counter systemic and human bias and historical disadvantage.
Aurecon sets gender targets at three levels:
The organisation continually challenges itself to exceed gender representation targets across all levels of staff.
Aurecon also partners with education institutions to grow gender equality in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) industries pipeline, both for Aurecon directly and for the broader industry.
Aurecon’s leadership development framework has processes in place to ensure diverse participation. The programmes within the framework aim to increase the diversity of our leaders, supporting all leaders to determine and navigate their own unique path and leadership style to fulfil their potential.
In addition, the programmes include content to build capacity to build and lead diverse teams.
Our development initiatives to help us deliver on our inclusive diversity commitments include:
Aurecon’s parental leave policy, applicable across our Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand business aims to disrupt gender stereotypes around parents’ working and caring roles. The policy provides financial incentive options (22 weeks paid leave) to support all parents (including through adoption, surrogacy, fostering, kinship care and whanau care) until the child reaches 18 months. Then our genuine approach to flexible working, purchased leave and other support kicks in.
Additionally, Aurecon partners with Talking Talent, a global coaching consulting provider, to provide targeted support to parents, carers, and their managers in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.
We all have different reasons and motivations for working flexibly, which is why Aurecon’s approach to flexible working provides the opportunity for everyone, in any role, to consider how, when and where they work and how they can perform at their best while managing commitments outside of work. We embrace work-life balance from the top down and all our leaders receive training in what kinds of flexible work options are possible and how to accommodate these within their teams.
To provide our teams with better leave options to celebrate significant cultural dates, we have extended our flexible ways of working to include a cultural public holiday swap. This practice allows everyone in Australia and New Zealand to swap out up to two public holidays per year to celebrate festivals or special days that are more important to them and for which there are no official public holidays.
Aurecon acknowledges intimate partner, domestic and family violence as a workplace issue. Where possible, Aurecon will provide support to an employee who is experiencing domestic and family violence or affected in some other way. Where we know we lack the internal skills or capabilities to provide full support, we will connect our people to the appropriate external support. Support comes in the form of leave, financial, and administrative support and referral to external support services.
Our commitment to gender equity and equality and a flexible working culture has seen us receive the following awards and recognition:
