Achieving a 98 per cent recycling rate onsite
As the old Eagle Street Pier precinct was carefully dismantled, the waste was meticulously sorted and transported to a pioneering recycling facility, processed and utilised in other construction and infrastructure projects across the city including one of Dexus’s industrial estates.
These efforts mean the project’s demolition phase successfully achieved a 98 per cent recycling rate due to the reduction in waste going to landfill, less virgin material being used in construction, and reduced carbon dioxide emissions.
Materials such as tree logs, granite and steel balustrades will be converted into furniture for the future precinct in partnership with Five Mile Radius. Plus, Eagle Street Pier’s original commercial kitchen equipment, as well as several dining tables and chairs, light fittings, artwork and plants were donated to Peggy's Place, Queensland’s largest shelter for women and children fleeing domestic violence.
Aurecon, as the project sustainability consultant, is responsible for monitoring and verifying the delivery of these project commitments.
