Perth Airport Pty Ltd took control of this vital transport hub in 1997 and saw stable passenger flows until 2004, when numbers started to increase with the mining and resources boom. Western Australia accounts for a significant proportion of Australia’s exports, much of this dependent in some way on the airport. Perth Airport has responded by investing in substantial expansion of both terminal and airfield capacity. Aurecon has been fortunate to be involved in much of this new work.
These projects have included the AUS$85 million expansion of the Qantas terminal (T4), the AUS$150 million regional terminal (T2); the upgrade and expansion of the Terminal 3 (T3) lounge, inclusive of a Virgin Lounge (total approximately AUS$60 million).
We have been heavily involved in the redevelopment and expansion of T1. The most significant project Perth Airport has ever completed is the AUS$300 million new Domestic Pier and International Departures Expansion, which opened in late 2015.
Aurecon also worked on the International Departures Upgrade Project, the new T1 Forecourt and the recent Level 2 Departure Lounge. We are currently working on the concept design of the International Terminal Upgrade, a project that positions Perth Airport for their next decade of operations.
Aurecon was involved in the initial design phase for the Airfield Expansion Project. This project addressed the need for a new runway, as well as substantial taxiways and aprons. It continues a longstanding involvement with the airfield, which has seen us responsible for the design of a variety of significant modifications including:
Rapid exit taxiways
T1 / T2 apron works
A380 taxiway modifications
We have recently completed airfield work as part of the International Terminal Upgrade and the New Terminal feasibility.
