Supporting renewable energy growth in Australia

Accelerating the global energy transition means delivering competitive, renewable, and locally sourced energy – through low-carbon energy and storage solutions. What’s equally important is achieving this in a way that’s both economically viable and environmentally responsible.

Aurecon has been engaged on energy transaction projects with Neoen, a global leader in renewable energy, providing a range of advisory, engineering and design support to benefit the global energy transition.

Securing project financing whether through debt, equity, or both, remains essential for developing renewable energy assets. Energy transaction advisory plays a key role in addressing these challenges, providing the technical and commercial insights needed to drive sound investment decision-making.

Aurecon has supported Neoen in raising capital to fund its development pipeline including portfolio financing of AUD1.1 billion in 2024, and more than doubling this in 2025 with an additional AUD1.4 billion.

Technical due diligence for renewable energy assets

As Neoen’s technical advisor, Aurecon provided support to secure AUD1.4 billion in debt funding from 11 Australian and international lenders for a number of new energy developments.

To help prepare Neoen for market engagement; technical, environmental, and energy yield due diligence of several renewable energy assets was undertaken. The analysis strengthened the asset valuation process by providing detailed information to lenders about how the assets would perform.

The debt raised will finance a portfolio of new energy developments across Australia, including three new assets:

  • Western Downs Battery Stage 1 (270 MW / 540 MWh) in Queensland, which has multiple contracted virtual battery agreements, and Western Downs Battery Stage 2.
  • Culcairn Solar Farm (440 MWp) in New South Wales which has a 4-year power purchase agreement with Smartest Energy for 50 per cent of its output and a Long-Term Energy Services Agreement (LTESA) with the NSW Government.
  • Collie Battery Stage 2 (341 MW / 1,363 MWh) in Western Australia, which has a 300 MW, 4-hour capacity services contract with the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO).

Aurecon is a leading provider of transaction and investment advisory, having advised on more than 100 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy transactions globally. Our technical advisory capability is complemented by our technical engineering expertise, providing detailed analysis to investors, and supporting significant investment decisions.
