20 May 2026 | 2 min

Asia Pacific engineering consultancy Aurecon has supported Aula Energy in its acquisition of five operating solar farms from Lightsource bp, a developer, financier and operator of utility-scale renewable energy projects.

This acquisition adds 1 GW of solar capacity and up to 800 MW of co-located BESS development opportunities to Aula Energy’s national portfolio, marking its first operating fleet within the National Electricity Market.

Aurecon supported Aula Energy through the exclusive transaction, delivering technical due diligence across environmental approvals, technology and plant performance, grid connection, energy yield review, and schedule and finance modelling. This portfolio spans three states – Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland – each characterised by separate grid connection and environmental approval considerations.

“We navigated distinct grid connection considerations, environmental regulatory frameworks, and market dynamics to clarify the risks and mitigation options,” Aurecon’s Energy Transactions Advisory Leader, Stan Kaluwin said.

“This is a significant transaction for Aula Energy and another signal that we’re in the middle of a large-scale capital deployment in Australia’s renewable energy sector.”

“As transactions grow larger and more complex, ensuring projects are bankable and fully understood is key to securing strong, high-value renewable portfolios,” Kaluwin added.

This transaction marks Aula Energy’s largest operating portfolio acquisition to date and complements its growing wind portfolio. It follows the recent financial close of Carmody’s Hill Wind Farm and Boulder Creek Wind Farm – transactions which were also supported by Aurecon with technical due diligence and energy yield reviews, in addition to ongoing roles on both wind farms as Owner’s Engineer.

The five operating solar farms, in West Wyalong, Wunghnu, Woolooga, Wellington and Wellington North strengthen Aula Energy’s diversified renewable portfolio and help meet the long-term energy needs of Australian communities.

Enabled by the established due diligence process, Aurecon identified key risks and developed cost-effective mitigations, through review of technical documentation and operational data. Aurecon’s technical findings directly supported transaction negotiations and valuation of the portfolio, helping Aula Energy to progress the acquisition.
