Aurecon supported Aula Energy in its acquisition of five operating solar farms from Lightsource bp. This is a significant transaction for Aula Energy and signals continuing large-scale capital deployment in Australia’s renewable energy sector.

Aurecon supported Aula Energy through the exclusive transaction, delivering technical due diligence across environmental approvals, technology and plant performance, grid connection, energy yield review, and schedule and finance modelling. The portfolio spans Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, each characterised by separate grid connection and environmental approval considerations.

Aurecon navigated distinct grid connection considerations, environmental regulatory frameworks, and market dynamics to clarify the risks and mitigation options. Enabled by the established due diligence process, we rapidly identified key risks and developed cost-effective mitigations, through review of technical documentation and operational data.

Our technical findings directly supported transaction negotiations and valuation of the portfolio, helping Aula Energy to progress the acquisition.

This transaction marks Aula Energy’s largest operating portfolio acquisition to date and complements its growing wind portfolio. It adds 1 GW of solar capacity and up to 800 MW of co-located BESS development opportunities to Aula Energy’s national portfolio, marking its first operating fleet within the National Electricity Market.

The acquisition follows the recent financial close of Aula Energy’s Carmody’s Hill Wind Farm and Boulder Creek Wind Farm, transactions which were also supported by Aurecon with technical due diligence and energy yield reviews, in addition to ongoing roles on both wind farms as Owner’s Engineer.

The five operating solar farms, in West Wyalong, Wunghnu, Woolooga, Wellington and Wellington North strengthen Aula Energy’s diversified renewable portfolio and help meet the long-term energy needs of Australian communities.
