International design, engineering and advisory company Aurecon has been named winner of the Construction, Engineering, Manufacturing & Transport industry category in The Australian Financial Review’s inaugural Digital Transformation Leaders list.
This acknowledgement places Aurecon in a league of Australasian companies that have successfully grown or enhanced their business by building digital capabilities.

Aurecon’s Managing Principal, Digital, Dave Mackenzie attributed the honour to Aurecon people at all levels who understand that they can only be successful if their clients are, evidence of a commitment to unravelling complexity, creating clarity and inventing new value through digital initiatives.
“This recognition is a credit to the entire organisation for embracing digital with curiosity, commitment, and a willingness to improve their digital literacy. As a result, Aurecon is now a fully digitally enabled organisation with the skills, ways of working and technology in place to support our ongoing maturity,” said Dave.
According to the assessment results, Aurecon demonstrated impact through three main digital initiatives:
Aurecon formed a network of digital leaders who act as change agents, champion digital methodologies and roll out best practices in regions. Their goal to equip 50 per cent of staff with digital competencies was surpassed in the first 24 months, and this was then increased to a 100 per cent target.
To help standardise information and bring about a digitised approach to the way the organisation works with information, Aurecon created the Aurecon Project Information Management Standard (APIMS). This was designed to provide certainty to Aurecon and its clients about the critical information created and shared through the asset lifecycle.
To support its digital transformation, Aurecon established a Digital Products and Services Group to focus on integrating digital products into services while commercialising digital skills such as visualisation and data analytics. This helped to better solve problems and overcome challenges faced by clients, be more efficient, work smarter and generate new opportunities.
The company’s acquisition of visualisation firm Unsigned Studio and digital strategy company Digital Node further enhanced Aurecon’s capabilities and offerings in addition to multiple award-winning digital products, including siteLab®, Aurecon AIR™, Aurecon Inground, Lightscope™ and Tucana™. Aurecon’s digital transformation has enabled the adoption, development and implementation of new technology like Generative AI. As a result, they have been able to scale an AI-based solution, Recall; a chat-based interface to knowledge which has embedded the organisation’s expertise.
"The adoption of digital technologies will continue to reshape organisations across the world, which is why we put digital at the heart of everything we do."
Dave Mackenzie, Managing Principal, Digital at Aurecon
“The adoption of digital technologies will continue to reshape organisations across the world, which is why we put digital at the heart of everything we do. This allows us to continue shaping the future of our industry and ensures Aurecon remains at the forefront of innovation,” said Dave.
“At Aurecon, the hard work is paying off and we continue to stand ready to seize opportunities to enable organisational growth while supporting clients to leverage digital initiatives.”
