NewsAurecon invests in Nomic to shape AI-enabled engineering

3 September 2026 | 3 min

Asia Pacific engineering consultancy Aurecon has announced a strategic investment in technology company Nomic, building on a four-year working partnership that helped shape Nomic’s industry-specific AI capabilities and will now expand access to the platform across Aurecon’s entire workforce.

Unlike many AI tools, Nomic’s new platform is built specifically for engineering, design and project delivery and designed to deliver greater impact for clients.

The platform provides an environment where engineers can securely interact with project information, apply AI-powered agents and bring advanced AI capability to large volumes of technical and unstructured data.

Aurecon Chief Executive Officer Louise Adams said the new partnership was part of Aurecon’s ambition to enhance people through technology.

“For nearly a century, Aurecon's value has come from the expertise, creativity and judgement of our people. As AI becomes more capable, those qualities don't become less important, they become more important. The real advantage will belong to organisations that know how to combine the power of technology with the experience, insight and judgement of their people,” Adams said.

“We've worked alongside Nomic for four years helping shape capabilities for engineering and project delivery. This investment reflects our belief that the future of AI for the built environment shouldn't be something that happens to our industry, it's something we should help create.

“Judgement and experience will become more critical as answers become easier to generate and this combination of human capability with technology will enable us to bring greater insight, creativity and expertise to the challenges our clients face,” Adams said.

Within Nomic’s new platform, AI agents can be deployed across documents, drawings, models, standards and systems to help people review drawings against firm standards, check code compliance, take a first pass at submittals, research RFIs, and answer complex questions with traceable, cited results. Agents are deployed inside tools already in use at Aurecon, operating under the same strict security, confidentiality policies and governance structures.

Nomic Chief Executive Officer Andriy Mulyar said that Nomic’s ability to deliver advanced AI capability to large volumes of technical and unstructured data is particularly valuable for the built environment where data is typically fragmented across disciplines, project participants, software vendors, file formats, and contractual lines.

“The best AI agents will make an experienced engineer, contractor, or project manager dramatically more effective. They will help teams investigate more alternatives, catch more mistakes and preserve institutional knowledge that would otherwise disappear across inboxes, file systems, and project turnover,” Mulyar said.

“AI won't replace engineers but amplify them – unlocking their expertise, reducing repetitive work, improving quality and giving teams more time for the problems only they can solve.

“Aurecon’s input into our platform has been invaluable to shape its development, from concept through to testing and pilot stages. This is a really unique and exciting opportunity to continue building on our long-standing collaboration, demonstrating how AI can support the people who design, engineer, and construct the built environment,” Mulyar said.

"Our advantage has always been our people and their ability to solve complex problems and create outcomes that clients value."

Dave Mackenzie, Aurecon Group Director, Digital & AI

Aurecon Group Director, Digital & AI Dave Mackenzie said that Aurecon had spent four years collaborating closely with Nomic and guiding the details on building this platform.

“What excites me about our partnership is that it provides a real opportunity for Aurecon not just to keep up with change, but to help shape it,” Mackenzie said.

“Our advantage has always been our people and their ability to solve complex problems and create outcomes that clients value. We're already seeing early signs of this in our pilots where teams are using AI to work through large volumes of project information and identify issues for engineers to assess and review. The value comes from combining technology with expertise to strengthen quality and consistency, with significant opportunities ahead to build on this,” said Mackenzie.
