The awards program focuses on outstanding consulting services, technical expertise, sustainable value and client satisfaction. Projects are awarded Gold, Silver or Merit based on the level of client satisfaction, how much the project has exceeded expectations and whether it sets a new industry standard.

This year Aurecon claimed two awards at the gala dinner event – Gold and Silver – for two shortlisted projects and their client, Constellation Brands, was awarded the annual Client Award for outstanding understanding of the benefits of consistently using the services of consulting engineers.

Gold Award

Constellation Brands press building and front-end automation at Kim Crawford Winery in Blenheim

Aurecon took on a high-risk project to completely reconstruct and automate the front-end processing capacity of client Constellation Brands New Zealand Limited’s iconic Kim Crawford Winery in Blenheim. Achieving this required a step-change in production capacity with automation and future-proofing required and reliability risk reduced. It also required the project team to plan the work between the end of one harvest and the beginning of the next one which, if the deadlines were missed, would have meant that about 30 million bottles of the finest Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc would have been missing from the global wine market.

The Aurecon team worked collaboratively with the client, overseas equipment suppliers and the construction team planning, delivering and commissioning a fully functional critical production plant, on time and within budget.

Simultaneously the team improved health and safety, environmental impact, working conditions, and process efficiency. ACE’s judging committee recognised Aurecon for its outstanding client centric collaborative approach, its technical expertise and its management of risk.

Aurecon’s Stephen Jenkins – Technical Director New Zealand, commented: “We have been consultants for this winery for about 20 years and have developed a two-way working relationship as a trusted advisor to Constellation Brands and they, in turn, have become a trusted client of Aurecon. Together we have planned developments, delivered growth, recovered from earthquakes, delivered a major project through the peak of Covid and ensured delivery of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc to the world.”

Silver Award

Wellington network operational readiness for the opening of Te Aranui o Te Rangihaeata – Transmission Gully

With a new motorway due to open in March 2022, the Wellington transport network was about to experience a transformational change in transport connectivity. It was essential that the transport network was ready for transition and wider network integration. Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency appointed Aurecon to help prepare everyone for the change.

Aurecon was recognised for its ground-breaking development and delivery of a successful suite of services, including transport network performance assessments, stakeholder engagement, operational planning, and physical interventions.

“Opening a new transport infrastructure of this scale and significance takes a lot of planning and coordination. Thanks to the exceptional collaboration between Waka Kotahi, local council partners, and Aurecon, we achieved seamless network integration and improved customer journey experience. It was heart-warming to see our collective effort making a positive impact on the transport network and the local community,” commented Bill Cheng – Associate, Integrated Transport & Mobility, Aurecon.
