International design, engineering and advisory company Aurecon, has again made it to the top five sustainability leaders for professional services, engineering and advisory in The Australian Financial Review Sustainability Leaders List for 2023. The recognition highlights Aurecon’s latest progress on deepening alignment between the advice provided to clients and how the company manages the decarbonisation of its own business.
“The integration of our decarbonisation activities into our client work, allows Aurecon to share learnings from its operational activities with clients, helping them navigate a more decisive, constructive course to limiting climate change effects,” said, Paul Gleeson, Group Director – Sustainability. “The approach gives us an authentic competitive advantage.”

Highlights from Aurecon’s progress aligning its sustainability advice with how it manages its business include:
Aurecon has seen a surge in the demand from clients, across sectors including resources, energy, transport, and water, for decarbonisation services, climate risk assessments and circular economy strategies. The introduction of services such as decarbonisation, circular economy, carbon markets, transition strategy, and physical risk and resilience advisory enables Aurecon to meet the growing demand for sustainability and climate change services from its clients.
For the last decade, Aurecon has been working on globally significant renewable energy projects and energy transition policies. The depth of understanding acquired through this work sees Aurecon support some of the world’s largest carbon emitters with their decarbonisation and climate action activities, leading to economy-wide decarbonisation.
"We have the opportunity and the knowledge to work with clients to not only adapt to climate change and build resilience but to confidently manage climate risk and drive hard on mitigation. This is one of the most important contributions Aurecon can make.
“In aligning what the company does, both as an operator and as a service provider, to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and adhering to its principles-based approach to responsible business, Aurecon shows a whole-of-company commitment to its sustainability talk,” said Paul.
This is the second year Aurecon made the list of Australasian companies making real progress in tackling sustainability challenges – and delivering business value along the way. Aurecon ranked in the top five in its category in the inaugural 2022 AFR Sustainability Leaders list, too.
