International design, engineering, and advisory company Aurecon’s significant revenue growth in environmental services catapulted it to rank 67 on the Engineering News-Record’s (ENR) Top 200 Environmental Firms list for 2023, rising 32 places from rank 99 in 2022.
The ENR 2023 Top 200 Environmental Firms rank companies based on the gross revenue of their environmental services in 2022.

Aurecon’s environmental services revenue more than doubled in 2022 with growth driven by significant revenue increase from the company delivering greater environmental outcomes including clean energy, energy, and water efficiencies.
William Cox, Chief Executive Officer at Aurecon, said, “Our revenue from environmental services posted the highest growth with 646.5 per cent, propelled by significant increase in environment-related geotechnical services and clean energy services. Revenue for water services grew by 12.6 per cent. Aurecon's environmental and planning advisory revenue rose by 11.3 per cent, off the back of its growth in capability specialisations in environmental approvals, contaminated land management, environmental design and management, and biodiversity and sustainable water solutions.”
“For our 2023-24 financial year we again forecast significant growth in our environmental and sustainability and climate change services as clients respond to increasing market awareness and needs in energy transition services, natural capital accounting, and nature-positive infrastructure and portfolio objectives.”
Aurecon has acquired several companies in the past to boost its environmental, sustainability and climate change capabilities and better address government and industry environmental and climate change priorities.
In 2022, Aurecon acquired Market Advisory Group in Australia, and AEC Limited, Acuity Sustainability Consulting Limited, Acumen Environmental Engineering and Technologies Limited and Acumen Laboratory and Testing Limited (Acuity and Acumen) in Asia.
The ENR Top 200 Environmental Firms is the second industry sustainability list Aurecon has ranked in this year. Earlier, Aurecon was also named one of the top five sustainability leaders in the Professional Services, Engineering, and Advisory field in the Australian Financial Review (AFR) Sustainability Leaders List.
For the sixth year in a row, Aurecon has ranked in ENR’s Top 225 International Design Firms and Top 150 Global Design Firms lists for 2023, ranking 45 and 38 respectively.
The Top 225 International Design Firms list ranks companies based on their design-specific revenue generated from projects outside their respective home countries, while the Top 150 Global Design Firms list ranks companies based on total design-specific revenue regardless of where the projects were located.
Stephane Asselin, Chief Executive – Asia at Aurecon, said: “This recognition is a testament to our commitment to deliver for our clients, and our unwavering emphasis on excellence, showcasing our innovative design culture, skills and expertise, which drive our competitiveness and success in the international and global design markets.”
Aurecon has been involved in key design projects globally in the past year, including the Soonthareeya Ratchadamri, a 57-story residential building in Thailand that aims to be one of the world’s slimmest high-rise buildings.
Recently, Aurecon has also been appointed as lead engineers, project managers, and one of the collaborators to design and deliver the Australian Institute for Infectious Disease (AIID), which aims to provide rapid, coordinated response to current and future pandemics.
