01 October 2018 - Global engineering and infrastructure advisory company Aurecon is proud to announce that its Design Director - Bridges, John Hilton has won the 2018 John Connell Gold Medal Award from Engineers Australia - Structural College Awards. The announcement was made at the Australian Structural Engineering Conference dinner on 27 September.
With a career spanning over 40 years in bridge design and construction, John has an extensive project portfolio, within Australia, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, New Zealand and Africa.
John is passionate about exploring new ideas, innovation, design led thinking and sustainable construction, and in helping to create and enable a professional environment where people can thrive and grow.
In notifying John on receiving this award, Karlie Collis Chair, Structural College Board commented, “Our profession and communities have benefited from your innovation and leadership. You have achieved a great deal in your career which has improved the standard of structural engineering both in Australia and internationally. Your attitude towards sharing of knowledge is critical to the future of our profession as we build on the knowledge of those before us.”
“I am very proud to receive this award and would like to acknowledge that there’s a huge body of people who helped me along the way,” said John. “I would especially like to thank Aurecon’s Managing Director - Design, Innovation & Eminence, Dr Kourosh Kayvani, for his inspiration, the opportunities he has have given me through challenging projects, by fostering design innovation and through my involvement within the Aurecon Design Academy.”
The John Connell Gold medal comes after John Hilton was named in the 2018 Engineers Australia Top 30 Most Innovative Engineers announced 4 July.
“I would like to congratulate John on receiving this highest accolade in structural engineering in Australia. This is a thoroughly deserved recognition of John’s very impressive body of professional engineering work and selfless sharing of his knowledge within the engineering community over a long period of time,” says Dr Kourosh Kayvani.
