GCU, a member of the Aurecon group, has been appointed by SIPP-YTL joint venture, the design and build contractor assigned to the project by the Ministry of Transport Malaysia, to provide design and supervision of shoring works to facilitate the Stage 2 construction of the 197 kilometre railway line spanning from Gemas to Johor Bahru.
This involves the design, detailing, endorsement and supervision of the extensive temporary shoring works to protect the work completed in Stage 1 and will cater for the construction works that will take place in Stage 2. The current Stage 2 design at Section 2 will cover an approximate track line that spans 45km.
The team is involved in checking the as built condition of Stage 1 works, evaluating the soil condition including any ground improvement that has been completed, reviewing method statement as well as delivering on-site supervision and technical support during the construction phase.
Track works design for the entire length of the railway line spanning 197km
Foundation design for a viaduct with a length of 5km including construction supervision
Ground treatment design for a length spanning approximately 85km
Civil and structural trackwork design of the temporary track diversions of more than 30km
Civil and structural design of three temporary depots
Review of the road over bridge ground treatment at five locations
Review of the civil and structural works for system designs
The Gemas-Johor Bahru Electrified Double Track project is scheduled for completion in 2022. The RM 9.5 billion project will increase train speeds from Johor Bahru to Gemas and will increased ridership between Johor Bahru and Central Johor.
The railway lines aim to improve connectivity for residents living in towns along the route, spur economic development in Central Johor and to facilitate large-scale cargo shipments by rail between Malaysia’s two largest ports – Port Klang and Port Tanjung Pelapas.
