Aurecon was appointed by Bhiraj Buri Company Limited and The Mall Group to undertake civil and structural engineering work on a 200 000 square-metre, premium-grade office tower and retail development known as Bhiraj Tower at EmQuartier.
The 185-metre tall building has 45 levels with one basement and is located on Sukhumvit Road, one of the exclusive business areas in Bangkok, Thailand. The podium levels will feature a 60 000-square-metre extension to the Emporium luxury department store.
As the building is located within a busy area, there were several environmental constraints to its construction.
Aurecon utilised diaphragm walls and retaining walls as the soil retaining structures. The tower floor system consists of RC slab with PT band beams. Moment frames on two exterior edges of the tower and the central core walls serve as a lateral load-resisting system. Transfer truss systems are provided as a column support for 30 levels above.
The project is slated for completion in 2014.
