The new hospital will be built on the existing Peel Health Campus site, located in Mandurah, Western Australia, a coastal city located approximately 72 kilometres south of the state capital, Perth. The hospital will service the entire Peel region, which is home to over 150,000 people. The City of Mandurah, currently home to 100,000 people, is estimated to grow by nearly a quarter between 2021 and 2046.

Aurecon forms a sub-alliance with Architectus and will be responsible for overarching design management, all engineering and working with the Western Australian Government on community and stakeholder engagement for the project.

"These facilities will provide care and connection for countless Western Australians. We are proud to be shaping spaces that serve communities for generations."

Hayley Wardrop, Aurecon’s Industry Director, Health, Education & Research

The new hospital will provide state-of-art facilities and deliver vital health services for the Peel communities including:

  • Increased emergency department capacity
  • Mental health emergency care and inpatient unit
  • Palliative care
  • Inpatient and high dependency
  • Brand new, top-tier operating theatres
  • Outpatient services and cancer treatment

Health alliance model a first for Western Australia

This is one of the first of two health alliances to be delivered in Western Australia, with both projects being delivered simultaneously under the WA Government's $1.5 billion Building Hospitals Fund, part of its $4.9 billion health infrastructure program.

Aurecon’s Industry Director, Health, Education & Research, Hayley Wardrop, said the project will benefit from integrated healthcare expertise and a collaborative approach.

“From the beginning, we have focused on being part of a highly collaborative team combining eminence in sustainable healthcare infrastructure and strength in alliance project delivery to bring this critical health infrastructure to life.

The appointment further strengthens Aurecon’s strong track record delivering complex healthcare projects spanning strategic planning, design and delivery across Australia, including Western Australia’s Perth Children’s Hospital, South Australia’s New Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Queensland’s Sunshine Coast University Hospital and Logan Hospital, and modular emergency department and climate risk assessments for the state of Victoria.

Preferred alliance and sub-alliance partners have been identified and commenced Phase One, the Project Alliance Development Agreement (PADA), which includes design development and early construction works.
