Asia Pacific design, engineering and advisory company, Aurecon, is delighted to have supported the 50-50 joint venture between Nova Energy and Meridian Energy as technical advisor in the development and project financing of Stage One (200MW) of the Te Rahui solar farm project at Rangitāiki near Taupō, New Zealand.
The joint venture has secured $300 million in project financing through a consortium of lenders for the first stage of the project.

Once complete, Te Rahui will be New Zealand’s largest solar farm, delivering 400MW of renewable energy – enough to power approximately 100,000 homes.
Stage One is targeted for completion by 2027. Aurecon will continue as technical advisor, in a combined role as owner’s engineer and lender’s engineer during construction.
For Aurecon, this milestone is a significant step on a continued journey to support Nova, Meridian and other New Zealand developers to increase New Zealand’s supply of renewable energy. This joint venture comes right on the heels of the Tauhei Solar Farm, where Harmony Energy and First Renewables are working together to bring large scale solar generation to the Waikato region.
Rebecca Mehrtens, Aurecon's Energy Leader for New Zealand says, "These projects are truly helping Aotearoa New Zealand's energy transition by making renewables a larger part of the overall energy mix."
As Meridian Chief Executive, Mike Roan says in the project announcement, "Te Rahui is a big undertaking and sharing the investment and offtake makes strong commercial sense for both parties, while the project will also benefit home and business customers by further strengthening security of supply."
The Aurecon team’s role has included working alongside the client from concept design all the way through development of contract schedules and contractor procurement, in addition to the due diligence work undertaken to support financing.
