Asia Pacific design, engineering and advisory company Aurecon has been awarded the prestigious RICS Southeast Asia Project of the Year Award 2025. The accolade recognises Aurecon's exceptional achievement as the lead engineering consultant for the K2 JHR01-03 Prefab Data Centre in Johor, Malaysia.
The RICS Southeast Asia Awards showcase the most inspirational initiatives and developments in land, real estate, construction, and infrastructure, recognising outstanding achievement, teamwork, and innovation that demonstrate the positive impact of the built environment on individuals and communities.

Aurecon's work on the K2 JHR01-03 facility has raised the bar for data centre delivery in Southeast Asia. The fully modularised 60MW facility was delivered in half the industry standard timeframe, representing a significant shift in how digital infrastructure can be delivered. Gabe Carter, Aurecon's Chief Executive for Asia, said, “We are honoured to receive this recognition from RICS.”
“This award reflects the significant role data centres play in Southeast Asia’s digital transformation. As the digital economy expands and competition intensifies, demand for data centre capacity continues to grow across the region. With speed to market becoming a key driver for high-priority infrastructure, we’re focused on helping our clients stay ahead and thrive amid these challenges.”
"The K2 data centre project challenged us to reimagine fast-track delivery using prefabrication and modular methods, enabling reduced construction time and high-quality standards."
Steven Lee, Director of Operations, Built Environment, Aurecon Singapore
The project's scale was exceptional, requiring Aurecon to collaborate with seven contractors and 1,000 workers simultaneously across 2 million hours. Despite this massive scale and accelerated timeline, the project achieved an impeccable safety record with zero major accidents, reflecting meticulous planning and execution.
"The K2 data centre project challenged us to reimagine what's possible in fast-track data centre delivery," explained Steven Lee, Director of Operations, Built Environment – Singapore. "The use of prefabrication techniques and modular methodology enabled parallel workflows, reduced on-site construction time, and maintained the highest quality standards throughout delivery."
This latest award adds to Aurecon's growing portfolio of award-winning infrastructure projects across Asia-Pacific. The K2 project was also recognised with the Editor's Choice Award at the Data Centre Dynamics Global 2024 awards. As demand for data centre capacity continues to surge across the region, Aurecon remains committed to delivering innovative, efficient, and sustainable engineering solutions that meet the evolving needs of the digital economy.
