Connecting the dots

Aotearoa New Zealand is experiencing challenges brought about by a longstanding infrastructure deficit, population growth, and the need to respond to climate change. These are complex problems that will require integrated thinking and multi-agency collaboration to solve.

Law’s ability to build a narrative and take multiple levels of decision makers on a journey of understanding to gain alignment, will be invaluable in connecting the dots. This skillset was particularly relevant at Auckland Light Rail, which imagined a transformational agenda for the city, requiring engagement with multiple levels of central and local government, iwi, private sector businesses and community.

Delivering value for money

The Coalition Government has outlined an ambitious pipeline of projects for the industry to deliver, with a particular focus on infrastructure investment as an enabler of economic growth and regional productivity. Delivering on these outcomes in a cost-strained environment really speaks to the need for articulating a strong case for investment with a clear picture of benefits.

Law’s deep experience in developing projects and working collaboratively with other agencies to unlock broader benefits will be invaluable in this climate. With new funding and financing tools such as private finance and City and Regional Deals on the table, being able to demonstrate the most value to a diverse range of stakeholders and investors will be key.

Transport Industry Leader Ian Sloane said it’s fantastic to have a leader with Law’s experience join the team to support clients as they embark on delivering such a strong pipeline of projects. "Law is a trusted advisor for advancing major infrastructure in New Zealand, with a deep understanding of what’s needed to build a strong case for projects, and a proven ability to steer them through complex decision-making gateways. With a background as an RMA lawyer, he understands some of the risks projects are facing and can provide meaningful advice."

Multi-tasking infrastructure that delivers a range of outcomes

Law is looking forward to working with clients to leverage opportunities for greater infrastructure integration, wider economic benefits, and better outcomes for Aotearoa New Zealand.

“As Aotearoa New Zealand grows and we plan for an increasingly complex but exciting future, the infrastructure investments we make now will have to work harder than ever – simultaneously improving economic and social outcomes, promoting greater equity, and protecting and enhancing our environment. To add further challenge, this all needs to be achieved in a budget-constrained environment. Shaping these kinds of integrated projects demands connected thinking and collaboration with a broad range of parties.”

Law will bring this approach to Aurecon’s People, Movement & Place team, adding to their already strong track record delivering city-shaping urban and place making outcomes on Auckland City Rail Link, Te Ahu a Turanga: Manawatū Tararua Highway and O Mahurangi Penlink.
