NewsAurecon committed to reducing gender pay gaps

23 February 2024 | 2 min

Aurecon welcomes WGEA’s publication of employer gender pay gaps, which we believe will advance gender equality and inspire action for change.

For the reporting period from April 2022 to March 2023, Aurecon’s median gender pay gap was 26.3%, against the industry average of 25.1%. The average gender pay gap was 17.9% (total remuneration), against the industry average of 21.4%. Both have seen decreases over recent years.

In the context of gender pay gap analysis, the median compares the earnings of the middle-ranking man to the middle-ranking woman. Despite improved overall representation of women at Aurecon, our numbers revealed that we had more men in higher paid roles and in higher paid areas of the business than women.

As a company with a significant presence in STEM industries, we acknowledge the gender imbalance in our sector. That means extra work is needed to close gender pay gaps.

Actions speak louder

Recognising that gender pay gaps stem from company structural and societal factors, we look beyond salary adjustments. Our efforts to improve gender equality have been ramping up through multi-faceted strategies.

Internally, we implemented concrete measures, such as setting recruitment and gender targets, applying a gender lens to succession planning, conducting remuneration audits, and promoting flexible work, progressive parental leave and policies against domestic violence, sexism and sexual harassment.

Externally, we engage with industry associations advocating for gender equality, such as the Champions of Change Coalition, and sponsor initiatives dedicated to mentoring for women and girls in STEM, such as UNIQ You.

For better transparency and accountability, we will publicise Aurecon’s gender pay gap data through Aurecon’s own channels.

Achieving gender equality demands continuous efforts. Together, we strive to dismantle barriers, challenge norms, and create a brighter, fairer future for all.
