Aurecon partners with Kinaway to support Victorian Indigenous communities

Aurecon’s approach to engaging with the Indigenous sector is to collaborate on long-term and social procurement activities with Indigenous people-owned businesses.

2 June 2022 – International design, engineering and advisory company Aurecon has announced its partnership with Kinaway Chamber of Commerce as the company’s latest initiative to support the economic and cultural development of Indigenous communities in Victoria.

Set to increase employment, enable better cultural connection and strengthen Aboriginal businesses’ capability, the partnership will see Aurecon work with and promote more Indigenous businesses, and foster networking and new business opportunities for them in the design, engineering and advisory practice.

Aurecon will be able to access Kinaway’s business portal and data, providing better support for joint causes and further improve Aurecon’s offerings to Indigenous communities and social procurement activities.

Jennifer Smith, Aurecon’s Managing Director for Victoria and South Australia welcomed the partnership and said, “Collaboration with Kinaway is an unmissable opportunity for Aurecon to connect with and bring value to our Victorian Indigenous communities.

“Aurecon’s approach to engaging with the Indigenous sector is to collaborate on long-term and social procurement activities with Indigenous people-owned businesses, based on trust, mutual respect, and a shared desire to support social outcomes through economic returns. As a partner, Aurecon will help close the gap.

“Having taken a range of actions to promote reconciliation since our Reconciliation Action Plan was first introduced in 2014, we aspire to play a key role in improving both economic and cultural advancement for people with Indigenous backgrounds.”

Scott McCartney, CEO of Kinaway Chamber of Commerce commented, “Kinaway is delighted to welcome Aurecon as a corporate partner at Kinaway.

“Aurecon is a fantastic organisation, who has proven to show a genuine interest in making positive impacts to the First Nation business community. Since 2019, Aurecon has tripled its spend with First Nation businesses, reaching over 1 million dollars. With our help, Aurecon can keep exceeding these RAP goals, connecting and further engaging Victorian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses and communities.”

In February 2022, Aurecon announced its partnership with Elevate Consulting Engineers, an industry-first collaboration with the engineering start-up to create business, employment, and sustainable development opportunities for First Nations communities across Australia.

Aurecon engages First Nations owned suppliers through its Australian strategic sourcing and procurement practices.
