Aurecon bolsters technical mastery with three new Design Directors

Aurecon has announced Evelyn Storey, Dr Alecs Chong, and Christian Bodner as new Design Directors.

04 July 2022 – International design, engineering and advisory company Aurecon has announced Evelyn Storey, Dr Alecs Chong, and Christian Bodner as new Design Directors, to continue elevating technical mastery at Aurecon to the highest level and serving clients through design excellence and innovation.

Aurecon Chief Executive Officer William Cox said, “Evelyn, Alecs, and Christian bring fresh perspectives and impact to clients through their unique ability to question and innovate to bring new ideas to life. Design Directors are Aurecon’s most eminent practitioners and represent the pinnacle of technical mastery within the organisation. Evelyn Storey, Alecs Chong, and Christian Bodner all successfully completed the Aurecon Design Academy program – Aurecon’s accelerator learning program for technical mastery and design excellence. They are custodians of design quality at Aurecon, play a key role in designing the most technically complex projects with clients and are renowned and sought for the quality of their technical excellence and impeccable delivery.

A seasoned structural engineer, technical director, and design manager, Evelyn is and will remain Aurecon’s Managing Director for Queensland. Evelyn has clearly demonstrated the ability to carry out a key leadership role as a region Managing Director as well as achieving the status as a Design Director, our most technically eminent role in the business.

She has over 34 years of experience in the delivery of built environment projects across transport, commercial, health and laboratory, education, residential and retail sectors, both in Australia and overseas. Evelyn is passionate about architectural structures and strives for an innovative and creative design approach to the challenges of Built Environment projects. She is a current Board Member and Deputy Chair of the Board of Professional Engineers of Queensland and a member of the Structural College Board of Engineers Australia.

Dr Alecs Chong, Design Director – Bridges & Civil Structures

Hong Kong

Prior to his appointment, Alecs was a Technical Director in Bridges & Civil Structures at Aurecon. He has 23 years’ experience in the field of advanced structural analysis and design of complex and special structures under static and dynamic load conditions and has led several complex engineering projects in Asia, including the erection analysis of the West Kowloon Station long-span roof structure and the detailed design of Macau Eiffel Tower.

Alecs often provides technical support on technically challenging projects from Aurecon offices across the globe, including his role as the Global Analysis Verification Lead for the Dubai Creek Harbour Tower.

Christian Bodner, Design Director – Tunnelling

Sydney – Australia

Until this appointment, Christian was a Principal, Tunnelling at Aurecon. He has 30 years’ experience in heavy civil engineering design and construction. He possesses an in-depth understanding of key constraints and issues associated with tunnel engineering for major transport infrastructure and has been involved heavily in many such projects, from project feasibility to detailed design and construction, such as NorthConnex, WestConnex Sydney, and Eastlink Melbourne.

As a Subject Matter Expert for tunnels, Christian has provided technical advice to Transport for New South Wales on several major tunnelling projects, including Coffs Bypass, Wynyard Walk, North Strathfield Rail Underpass, South West Rail Link Hume Highway Tunnels, and the Tintenbar to Ewingsdale St Helena Tunnels.
