Aurecon’s new North Sydney home will promote a new way of working

Aurecon move to new office at 73 Miller Street in North Sydney.

Aurecon has engaged Acuity Project Management to manage the seamless transition from Military Road to Miller Street for Aurecon’s 750 Sydney based staff.

05 November 2021 – As businesses around the world adapt to new, more flexible ways of working, Aurecon will move its Sydney office to the growing Miller Street precinct in North Sydney, which is undergoing a cultural renaissance as a smart and sustainable second central business district.

The international engineering, design and advisory company will move from its Military Road office in Neutral Bay to 73 Miller Street in mid-2022 after taking a 10-year lease for circa 4,500 sqm across levels 9, 10 and 11 in the A-grade commercial building.

Aurecon has chosen a location that reflects its flexible way of working and can be easily accessible to staff and clients, and adaptable to allow for ongoing collaboration through in-person and virtual interaction, according to Managing Director, New South Wales & Australian Capital Territory Rowenna Walker.

“Ultimately, we want to create a space that reflects the personality of our people and our business – that incorporates the innovation at our heart and our deep desire to leave a legacy, which is embedded in our DNA,” Ms Walker said.

“73 Miller Street gives us the canvas to be bold in how we reimagine our working and learning spaces in the post-COVID-19 world. We are creating a space that will accelerate growth for our clients, our people and Aurecon and increase our positive impact.”

Ms Walker said the new commercial space was chosen based on surveys with Aurecon staff and working group feedback about what was most important to them, the future workforce and clients.

Sustainability, accessibility and adaptability were all key to what we were looking for,” Ms Walker said.

“After more than 30 years in our Neutral Bay office, this is an opportunity to create a new experience of project delivery for our clients, a new way of working for our people, and a new industry benchmark.

“We are looking forward to 73 Miller as our Sydney home in the recently renovated building, designed with best practice sustainability principles and with easy access to various forms of public transport as well as the new Victoria Cross Metro Station due to open in 2024.”

The building, which has city and Harbour views, offers quality office accommodation, with large floor plans allowing for greater efficiencies in the fit-out. Miller Street’s placemaking characteristics align with the surrounding North Sydney CBD Public Domain Strategy that offers a greater range of activities and unique public spaces for workers, residents and visitors. It will allow Aurecon staff and clients to utilise shared spaces that complement their own workspaces.

A joint venture between ESR Australia and Partners Group oversaw the c.$60 million capital expenditure program that repositioned 73 Miller Street into a quality A-grade commercial property. Completed in July 2020, the repositioning of 73 Miller Street elevated the 1990s-built property to A-grade office accommodation. The contemporary façade, innovative foyer, modern end-of-trip facilities, and sustainable features, including a rooftop photovoltaic system, helped to transform the site.

Aurecon has engaged Acuity Project Management to manage the seamless transition from Military Road to Miller Street for Aurecon’s 750 Sydney based staff. Cox Architecture is the interior designer designing the fit-out in collaboration with Aurecon, and Aurecon is also providing engineering services to ensure that the space meets its new ways of working. Cost management is being provided by WT Partnership.

Aurecon has 35 offices across Australia, New Zealand and Asia, including its head office in Melbourne and a second New South Wales office located in Newcastle.
