Aurecon’s Tony Barry announced as Vice President of FIDIC

In this role, Tony will support FIDIC’s mission of developing and implementing strategic goals for the consulting engineering industry on behalf of its 104 member associations

29 September 2018 – Senior consultant at global engineering and infrastructure advisory company Aurecon, Tony Barry has been appointed Vice President of the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) at its annual Infrastructure conference in Berlin.

This global role will involve Tony supporting FIDIC’s mission of developing and implementing strategic goals for the consulting engineering industry on behalf of its 104 member associations.

In accepting the position, Tony said: “It is a great leadership opportunity to serve the industry I have enjoyed working in for so many years. Collaborating with such a range of international colleagues enables FIDIC to improve the business conditions for the industry, its capability, quality of infrastructure development, the environment, and in many ways, society.”

Tony has worked for the last three years with the Young Professionals Forum, the Young Professionals Management Training Programme, the Business Practice Committee, the Conference Advisory Committee, the ASPAC Region, as well as providing significant leadership on Board governance.

At the conference, FIDIC also announced successful completion of the Pilot FIDIC Certified Consulting Engineer (FCCE) programme that, over four years, has trained more than 1 400 Chinese engineers (and a number of foreign students) in the FIDIC body of knowledge.

The successful program is but one aspect of Tony’s contribution this year, having joined the management board of the FCCE programme as a nominee of the FIDIC Board. He commented: “The course was hailed a great success with employer feedback confirming that FCCE engineers have a much better understanding of consulting engineering.

“This is further evidenced by tender evaluation boards awarding high marks for teams that include FCCE qualified engineers. The programme is expected to continue in China and may be made available in other countries around the world.”

Megan Motto, CEO of Consult Australia (of which Tony is a Past President and Life Member), hailed the appointment as a win for the global consulting community. “Tony is a passionate and visionary leader who is well respected in FIDIC and around the world. His vast experience, strategic intellect and strong sense of integrity will be a huge bonus for the organisation as it strategically positions itself in a rapidly evolving market,” Megan said.

With more than 35 years' experience working at Aurecon including roles as Aurecon's Managing Director – Asia and Chief Business Development Officer, Tony is renowned across the globe for his deep expertise in civil engineering and infrastructure projects.
