Aurecon Chief Executive Officer Louise Adams said Powell was a natural fit for the role given the success he has generated over his 26-year career at Aurecon.

“As our clients face increasingly complex issues to solve in market, the systems and hardware behind the solutions are also evolving,” Adams said.

“We need to keep pace with the changing world around us so that we can continue to deliver the best service for our clients and Scott’s capacity to activate strategy, drive momentum and deliver results in challenging environments is second to none.

“Throughout his career, Scott has built high-performing teams, delivered strong financial outcomes, led global change programmes and provided exceptional client value and I have no doubt he will continue to achieve great results in this new space.”

"I’m passionate about solving complex challenges and this broader remit allows me to contribute even more meaningfully."

Key focus areas of Powell’s Chief Operating Officer role include leading critical business areas such as major projects, program governance and risk management. Powell will also work closely with Aurecon’s Group Executive Leadership Team to drive profitable growth and unlock strategic pursuit opportunities.

Powell said he was delighted to take on the new opportunity to continue ensuring Aurecon delivered an effective and efficient mix of resources for clients.

“The interplay between risk, innovation and efficiency is increasingly changing. For example, how can we repeatedly deliver new value for our clients’ projects through artificial intelligence while maintaining safe, high-quality standards without increasing risk?” Powell said.

“I’m passionate about solving these kinds of complex challenges and this broader remit allows me to contribute even more meaningfully in this space.”

Powell is based in Sydney and graduated as a civil engineer from University of New South Wales (UNSW). He also sits on the industry advisory council of the UNSW School of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
