Aurecon capitalises on Asia infrastructure growth with strategic appointments

03 July 2018 Global engineering and infrastructure advisory company Aurecon has appointed Keith Chong as a Client Director for Infrastructure in Asia to meet the region’s increased demand for infrastructure.

Keith’s appointment stems from Asia’s escalating economic activity that has seen USD900 billion spent annually on infrastructure projects in the region, according to Asian Development Bank (ADB) reports. The ADB estimates that Asia will need to invest USD1.7 trillion in infrastructure per year until 2030 to maintain its growth momentum, tackle poverty, and respond to climate change . Furthermore, 90 per cent of the total investment needs are in the energy and transport sectors.

This increased activity along with changing demographics, rapid urbanisation, technological disruptions, and evolving customer expectations are placing greater pressure on infrastructure projects in both government and private sectors.

Based in Hong Kong, Keith will complement and collaborate with Scott Smith, who holds a parallel role as Client Director for Infrastructure in Asia. An expert in tunnelling, Scott has spearheaded Aurecon’s infrastructure market in Asia since 2015 and been involved in a wide variety of infrastructure projects such as the South Island Line in Hong Kong.

“The bountiful and diverse opportunities in Asia means that there is scope for two Client Directors for the Infrastructure market to assist clients and stakeholders in developing innovative and intelligent solutions. With Keith and Scott at the helm, I am confident that Aurecon is well-positioned to drive an infrastructure strategy that helps create more productive, accessible, and liveable communities in Asia,” said Paul Lombard, Managing Director for Aurecon in Middle East and Asia.

Keith has over 31 years of experience in infrastructure engineering. He led the conceptualisation and design of major transport infrastructure projects across Asia, including the iconic West Kowloon High-Speed Rail Terminus and one of the world’s largest standalone cargo facility, SuperTerminal 1, in Hong Kong. He also served as Project Leader of high-profile rail projects such as Malaysia’s Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit Line 1 and 2.

“This is an exciting time for the industry in Asia as nations seek to improve their connectivity and provide a better quality of life. I am excited to be joining a team of highly-skilled and experienced professionals who have the passion and commitment to deliver world-class transportation solutions that improve the lives of communities,” said Keith.
