Women in male-dominated industries: A toolkit of strategies outlines examples of how to develop, support and maintain a diverse and inclusive workplace. Two of Aurecon’s flagship diversity initiatives - AW2 and ASPIRE - are referenced as examples of strategies to ensure women have access to both formal and on the job development for career paths in non-traditional roles.
AW2 stands for Aurecon Women Achieving Women and was set up to empower women to realise and achieve their potential. It is one of Aurecon’s key global diversity initiatives.
ASPIRE is an inclusive development programme hosted annually by AW2. It delivers professional and personal development for both men and women across all career stages.
Paul Thorstenson, Chief Administration Officer and Chair of the ANZ and Asia Diversity Leadership Team at Aurecon, said such recognition by the Australian Human Rights Commission was testament to the work that has been done to ensure Aurecon is a diverse and inclusive organisation.
“At Aurecon we celebrate diversity and inclusion, and recognise it as one of our strengths. Gender diversity is key to this,” Paul said.
“We work hard to ensure our work environment is supportive and inclusive of women at all career stages and AW2, along with its flagship programme ASPIRE, is central to this.
“I am proud to be a part of the AW2 community and work with so many people who are passionate about making safety, diversity and people our passion.”
