EastLink Project wins Australian construction achievement award

18 May 2009 - Melbourne’s EastLink project was declared Australia’s most outstanding example of construction excellence at the 2009 Australian Construction Achievement Award (ACAA) dinner in Sydney on Thursday 7 May.

The project was constructed by Thiess and John Holland, with the design split between three of Australia's largest consulting engineering firms. Aurecon’s design team was responsible for the northern 6 km section including the twin 1.5 km tunnels, Ringwood Bypass and the complicated Ringwood and Maroondah interchanges.

“It is fantastic to see that the EastLink project has won this award, said John de Araugo, Design Team Leader (Executive - Transport). This could not have been achieved without the outstanding efforts of our design team”.

The $2.5 billion, 39 km tollway is located in Melbourne’s eastern and south-eastern suburbs between the existing Eastern, Monash and Peninsula Freeways.

At the time of construction, it was Australia’s largest road infrastructure project, and was completed five months ahead of schedule.
