International design, engineering and advisory company Aurecon congratulates the finalists and winners of the 2023 Good Design Awards, with special recognition for the Carbonix Long-Range Survey Drone, the Best in Class winner for Engineering Design.
These accolades, bestowed by the World Design Organization (WDO), affirm the Good Design Awards as Australia's premier international design endorsement program, reaffirming its stature as one of the world's most esteemed global design competitions.
Since 2018, Aurecon has been proud to partner with Good Design Australia in rewarding exceptional engineering design projects across the nation, recognising their pivotal roles in shaping a better future for our people and the planet.
Aurecon proudly serves as the founding sponsor of the Engineering Design category, and this year, the jury panel for this category comprised Aurecon's CEO, William Cox, and Group Managing Principal, Eminence, Digital & Innovation, Dr Andrew Maher, alongside industry leaders Lucia Cade and Jane MacMaster. The jury was particularly impressed by the diversity of entries, many of which hailed from Australia. These entries spanned the gamut from cutting-edge medical equipment to advanced machinery, all of which showcased exceptional quality and innovation.
This year, a total of 14 outstanding designs garnered well-deserved recognition in the Engineering Design category. The jury diligently sought designs that transcended the initial design brief, offering a truly distinctive and innovative approach, all while displaying meticulous development and finishing.
The Carbonix Long-Range Survey Drone, heralded as the Best in Class recipient, effortlessly met the stringent criteria. This remotely piloted aircraft system excels in the collection of critical aerial data for long-range surveying and surveillance, while ensuring safety at scale. It represents an elegant solution for acquiring detailed LiDAR scans, photography, and video footage of infrastructure across expansive distances and vast areas.
Dr Andrew Maher, Chair of the Jury, remarked, "The Carbonix Long-Range Survey Drone embodies the spirit of innovation we seek to champion and is poised to revolutionise large-scale infrastructure inspections. It delivers an environmentally friendly, cost-efficient, and deployable solution, demonstrating design excellence, a commitment to safety, and dedication to innovation."
"We are immensely proud of all the finalists and winners, who are shaping the future of design and engineering. Their dedication and ingenuity serve as a testament to Australian design's global leadership."
