International design, engineering and advisory company Aurecon has appointed Louise Dudley as Strategic Advisor for Water to further strengthen Aurecon’s position in the water industry and help clients build and deliver a sustainable water future.
With a career spanning 40 years in the water and professional services sectors, Louise joins from Urban Utilities, a major Australian water utility services company with over 1.4 million people in South East Queensland. Louise held the role of Chief Executive Officer since 2012 and successfully led an innovative transformation, drove sustainability outcomes and championed a positive culture at the organisation.

Aurecon Managing Director, Water – Australia & New Zealand Kevin Werksman said Louise’s exemplary leadership and strong network within the infrastructure and water industries will extend the team’s strategic advisory capabilities and provide immense value to Aurecon’s clients and the wider community.
“Aurecon has set its vision to be water partner and advisor of choice to our clients in creating liveable communities by optimising opportunities and resolving challenges. The water industry is addressing significant issues, including water security, resilience and the impact of climate change. Louise’s experience will support our clients to address these challenges, create long-term value by adopting a robust innovation strategy and effectively managing risk,” Mr Werksman said.
“Louise is one of Australia’s most eminent water leaders and has a great reputation for applying her unique perspective to the challenge of delivering greener, smarter water services. Her appointment reflects our strong commitment to creating meaningful impacts and bringing ideas to life that will leave a legacy for future generations.”
"What really attracted me to Aurecon is its future thinking mindset, core values and strong sustainability commitment."
Louise Dudley, Strategic Advisor, Water, Aurecon
Excited about returning to the professional services industry after more than a decade, Ms Dudley said:
“On top of the outstanding workplace culture, what really attracted me to Aurecon is its future thinking mindset, core values and strong sustainability commitment. I am looking forward to working with the multidisciplinary team and co-creating solutions that improve the sustainable management of water infrastructure.
“Water plays a vital role in dealing with the impact of climate change. As more stress is placed on our water system through extreme weather events, urbanisation, and population growth, we need to better understand how water is used and how we enhance water resilience.
“We also need to advocate for climate-independent water sources, such as purified recycled water, to improve water security. It’s important to start having the conversation and improve our communities’ understanding of the option.
“I’m confident my knowledge, experience and perspective will add great value to the services Aurecon is providing clients as we move into a more challenging era for capital investment to deliver improved water services while maintaining affordability for customers.”
Preceding Urban Utilities’ formation, Louise held several senior management roles at Brisbane City Council, including Executive Manager Water Retail, where she helped facilitate Australia’s largest water sector transition that merged five local government water and sewerage businesses into Australia’s fourth largest water retailer.
Prior to joining Brisbane City Council, Louise spent 17 years in the professional services sector.
Louise is the President of the Australian Water Association and is a director on the boards of WaterAID Australia and WaterStart. She is also a member of Chief Executive Women and her contribution to the engineering profession was acknowledged with the Engineering Executive title, conferred by Engineers Australia in 2021.
