International design, engineering and advisory company Aurecon has renewed sponsorship of Women in BIM (‘WIB’) for Asia Pacific to help female professionals thrive in the BIM (Building Information Modelling) and digital built environment.
Innovations from a team that includes at least one woman are proven to be more economically valuable and have a higher impact than those with only men involved, according to the UN Women Australia.

Rebecca De Cicco, Principal, Digital Enablement at Aurecon, who is also Founder and Global Chair of WIB said, “Aurecon is committed to creating opportunities in STEM careers where women are traditionally under-represented, including the BIM and digital space. I am particularly interested in identifying the barriers for women in digital leadership and addressing how as a community we can support and encourage female professionals.”
United Nations has pointed out that women globally hold only two in every ten jobs in science, engineering and information and communication technology.
“Increasing the gender diversity in digital by attracting, retaining and promoting more women to leadership roles is critical to innovation. The more diverse viewpoints we have in digital design and governance the better solutions there will be,” added Rebecca.
Aurecon’s renewed support for WIB coincides with this year’s International Women’s Day (IWD) and fittingly aligns with the UN Women Australia’s theme for 2023 that highlights the role that bold, transformative ideas, inclusive technologies and accessible education can play in combatting discrimination and the marginalisation of women.
In addition to providing financial support for WIB Asia Pacific, five of Aurecon’s digital professionals are WIB regional leaders.
"The Aurecon WIB Internal Network brings about valuable opportunities for our female professionals to better connect and upskill through mentorship and increased visibility of role models for women in digital."

Aurecon has established its own internal WIB and Digital network to help its female professionals grow and thrive in digital roles collectively. The network spans Australia, New Zealand and Asia and is currently around 100-strong, set to triple in size by the end of 2023.
“The Aurecon WIB Internal Network brings about valuable opportunities for our female professionals to better connect and upskill through mentorship and increased visibility of role models for women in digital,” said Rebecca.
The network meets monthly to discuss hot topics, hear from guest speakers, share knowledge, successes and challenges, with the specific purpose of uplifting, supporting and listening to women within digital at Aurecon.
WIB supports the professional and personal development of women in BIM-related roles to upskill, expand their knowledge and advance their careers across the architecture, engineering and construction industry.
Aurecon is a Gold Sponsor of WIB in 2023 for the Asia Pacific Region. Aurecon holds an Employer of Choice for Gender Equality (EOCGE) citation from the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA).
