Aurecon, CIC to lead the development of Hong Kong’s new BIM Technology Standards

Aurecon has been chosen to organise and present the Construction Industry Council’s (CIC) BIM Standards Stakeholders Consultation Seminars in Hong Kong.

Aurecon has completed high profile projects such as the West Kowloon Terminus roof and Macau Eiffel Tower using Design Intent BIM

19 February 2019 – Global engineering and infrastructure advisory company Aurecon has been chosen to organise and present the Construction Industry Council’s (CIC) BIM Standards Stakeholders Consultation Seminars.

In 2017, the HKSAR Government stipulated that BIM technology must be used in the design and construction of all major government capital works projects costing more than HKD 30 million, and that the use of this technology in private construction projects should be promoted. This has generated a surge in demand for BIM Standards development.

To ensure Hong Kong remains future ready, the Construction Industry Council (CIC) is reviewing its existing BIM standards by conducting a series of seminars and consultation  sessions with the construction industry throughout 2019. Based on the feedback and comments gathered at these events, CIC will develop new BIM Standards of Statutory Plan Submission together with model templates, user guides and samples for:

  • Superstructure Plans
  • Demolition Plans (including Hoarding)
  • Site Formation Plans
  • Drainage Plans
  • Foundation Plans
  • Excavation and Lateral Support (E&LS) Plans
  • Ground Investigation Plans

Designing new BIM standards with Aurecon technical expertise

“As early as 2001, Aurecon has been bringing ideas to life by developing 3D design models for eminent projects,” says Francis Leung, Aurecon’s Executive Director (Structural Engineering & Digital Delivery), Greater China. “Being engaged by CIC to present its consultation sessions is truly a great opportunity for us to share our knowledge and best practices with the industry.”

Using Design Intent BIM, Aurecon has completed high profile projects such as the West Kowloon Terminus roof and Macau Eiffel Tower, helping clients achieve better buildability and steamlined construction.

Francis, who is the Founder and recently-reappointed Chairman of the Hong Kong Institute of Building Information Modelling, will present a total of 30 seminars throughout 2019. Gathering input to craft a new BIM framework for Hong Kong, the seminars for the drafting stage were successfully held in January and March 2019.
