14 September 2012 - The Adelaide Oval Western Grandstand Redevelopment, Australia, has continued its run of industry recognition, recently winning two awards at the Australian Steel Institute Steel Design Awards 2012. The project was joint national winner and South Australia Chapter winner in the Buildings Category – Large Project >$5 million.
Aurecon provided total engineering services for the redevelopment, comprising the partial demolition and reconstruction of the existing heritage listed Western members’ grandstand into a 14 000 seat stand.
Aurecon’s responsibilities included the grandstand roof, long span floor structures, evacuation modelling, specialist sports lighting and facilitating and leading safe design procedures to control safety risks during construction, operation and maintenance.
Aurecon is currently providing building services, acoustics and wind engineering for a further two major grandstands, function spaces and an entry plaza as part of the AUD535 million redevelopment. The finished stadium will provide a world class 50 000 seat stadium and will be the home of AFL and cricket in South Australia.
