Aurecon’s role: Detailed engineering investigation and assessment
The Sengkang and Punggol Light Rail Transit networks started operating in 2003 and 2005 respectively, providing connectivity for residents to the North-East MRT line. The Sengkang LRT Line is a 10.7 km light rail line with 14 stations while the Punggol LRT Line spans 10.3 km in length with 15 stations.
In 2015, as part of their regular asset inspection programme, the Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA) identified areas that required improvement on both the Sengkang & Punggol LRT networks.
Aurecon was appointed to conduct a detailed structural analysis and to lead the inspection of the two light rail networks. In addition to detailed physical inspections, the team investigated the root causes of the identified defects and proposed the most appropriate and cost-effective rectification measures.
