Aurecon provides full engineering infrastructure design services for smart precinct development, Waterpoint Township, Vietnam
359-hectare, mixed use precinct development for 25 000 residents
Aurecon's role: Full engineering infrastructure design and strategic consulting for a smart precinct
Developer: Nam Long Investment Corporation
Located 30 kilometres from Ho Chi Minh City, the township of Waterpoint is a 359-hectare, mixed use precinct development to be developed over the next 20 to 30 years.
As part of the government’s strategy to reduce the density of population in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, this precinct will house 25 000 residents in a mix of villas, town houses and apartments. The development will also have education facilities, including a university, as well as a range of retail, sporting, leisure and commercial facilities and a possible marina.
Aurecon has been appointed by Nam Long Investment Corporation to provide full engineering infrastructure design services including roads, utilities, number of bridges and waterways, as well as ground improvement.
A key feature of the Township design is riverside living. Located at the bend of the Vam Co Dong River, the Waterpoint Resident Community sits at the heart of Vietnam’s waterway trade, connecting 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta.
Within the Township, a central canal has been engineered around a nine-hole golf course and throughout the residential parcels; this is to ensure that the river’s tidal range will flush the canal to maintain the quality of the water.
After completion of ground works and the main infrastructure, in the first quarter of 2021, Aurecon has completed the civil infrastructure design for three of the six park systems. This includes the Central Park, known as The Green Lung of the township.
The 25-hectare park will be an integrated hub that offers a harmonious blend between nature and modern living and will host a mix of amenities such as rice fields, an observatory, restaurants, and a weekend entertainment club consisting of Olympic size swimming pools, tennis, basketball and badminton courts and children’s playgrounds.
To cater for transportation from the township to Central Ho Chi Minh and surrounding areas, bus stops will be built 400m apart throughout the riverside community for ease of commuting. Aurecon is working with a local contractor to build a network of walking and cycling paths stretching over 20km. This will be completed by end 2021.
Aurecon’s involvement on a precinct development such as the Waterpoint Township, reinforces the company’s commitment in bringing innovative ideas to life and delivering sustainable design solutions for future generations.
