An innovative engineering solution by Aurecon enabled two additional floors to be constructed above the world-renowned Stamford Plaza Hotel in Auckland.
Located in the central business district, the Stamford Plaza Hotel which originally opened in 1984, has increased the number to 11 floors of luxury apartments and an associated car park with this addition.
Aurecon was appointed for structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, facade engineering and surveying of the existing building.
One of the more creative solutions used was the installation of three tuned mass dampers weighing a total of 380 tonnes, to reduce the wind accelerations experienced by occupants in the building.
