International engineering, design and advisory company Aurecon has appointed climate change specialist, Ian Wroe, to advise government and industry leaders on accelerating the transition to net zero or better for New Zealand.
The newly created Sustainability and Climate Change leader role for New Zealand complements Aurecon’s existing expertise in the future energy value chain from renewable energy and generation, storage, network distribution and transmission through to transport and asset performance.

Aurecon’s Managing Director New Zealand, Tracey Ryan, said Mr Wroe’s experience as an executive leader of global ICT, energy and aerospace companies and his focus on the threat of climate change will help Aurecon’s clients develop bold strategies, policies and projects.
“While it is possible for New Zealand to achieve net zero or better in the second half of the century, there are bold decisions to be made. As one of the first countries to have a legally binding net zero target, both government and industry have the opportunity to demonstrate their climate change maturity to the world with tangible projects,” Ms Ryan said.
For more than a decade Ian has been working to advance climate responses globally with governments and businesses, using his strategic and commercial skills to scale climate change solutions and drive the energy transition to renewables.
“To meet the challenges of the next decade, we must deliver wholesale transformation of systems using known and scalable technologies, complemented by suite of disruptive innovations across industries that will shift behaviours towards new and sustainable norms,” Mr Wroe said.
Ian originates from Oxford, England and has extensive commercial experience mainly serving the private sector. Ian’s work has spanned several technology centric industries where he has developed corporate strategy, corporate ventures and delivered M&A deals within global businesses.
In anticipation of a 100 per cent net zero emissions future, Aurecon is set to achieve net zero emissions by 2025 as part of its plan to decarbonise its business and transition its services.
