12 April 2012 - Aurecon and Hyder Consulting have been appointed as lead designers for the Deer Park - West Werribee Junction package of the multi-billion dollar Regional Rail Link Project.
The package, awarded to the Baulderstone Leighton Joint Venture, involves an integrated design team comprising international engineering, management and specialist technical consultancy Aurecon and international engineering and advisory firm Hyder Consulting. The team will provide the rail design works – track alignment, formation, stations and associated road and bridge works – over a period of 12 months to help the Regional Rail Link Authority deliver Australia’s largest regional passenger rail development.
“Following successful partnerships on large, complex infrastructure projects such as South Improvement Alliance, EastLink, Peninsula Link and West Gate Freeway Upgrade, the Aurecon Hyder Consulting team is well placed to provide the Baulderstone Leighton JV with an intelligent and co-ordinated rail infrastructure design solution vital to the efficient delivery on this major new public transport facility,” John de Araugo, Aurecon Hyder Consulting Joint Venture Technical Design Manager, said.
Regional Rail Link will be constructed in six work packages and aims to remove major bottlenecks from Victoria’s public transport system by separating regional and metropolitan trains.
The design and construction of the Deer Park - West Werribee Junction package involves 25 kilometres of two new regional railway tracks, 15 over rail bridges and cross roads, 14 new waterway crossing bridges and two new stations at Wyndham Vale and Tarnet including all civil works.
Services on the Regional Rail Link are expected to commence in 2016. To date, the rail horizontal and vertical alignment has been finalised enabling all other road bridge, station and drainage design packages to progress to detailed design.
“The Aurecon Hyder Consulting team is delighted to be supporting the Baulderstone Leighton JV and playing its role in transforming Victoria’s rail network. The project builds on both companies’ expertise in rail and continues to develop our excellent working relationship,” Bernard O’Malley, Aurecon Hyder Consulting Joint Venture Design Director, said.
