Lighthouse Club Hong Kong International Design for Safety Award

Aurecon’s design and robust solutions doubled the treatment capacity of the Tai Po Water Treatment Works, providing reliable potable water supply to the people of Hong Kong.
During the excavation and lateral support (ELS) work, the existing structures and utilities were required to be in operation. Key challenges were the confined space for work and the control of impact on existing adjacent sensitive structures.
The key to success was a safety in design approach, which allowed all potential hazards to be identified and addressed early in the design stage. The ELS design included shortening the construction programme and thus the working time in the hazardous confined space, reducing the whole life cycle safety risk and the injury rate. This aligns with Aurecon’s commitment to Health and Safety and designing wellbeing into infrastructures we create for everyone.
