Image Flat Water Treatment Plant Upgrade, Australia
Continuing to produce high quality drinking water for South East Queensland
The Image Flat Water Treatment Plant feeds Nambour, Yandina, Eumundi and coastal urban development north of the Maroochy River in Queensland.
The plant was originally designed for 40ML/d, however, there are a number of existing infrastructure constraints which limit the current plant capacity.
Seqwater identified the need to upgrade the treatment plant to improve its performance and ensure it continues to produce high quality drinking water up to 25ML/d.
Aurecon was retained by Seqwater to design new sludge handling and lime dosing facilities for pH correction and alkalinity control to remove some of the bottlenecks. This included civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, control and instrumentation works.
A lime clarifier system was proposed to overcome the operational difficulties associated with a conventional lime slurry dosing plant, and to achieve current Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) targets and compliance with the bulk supply agreement with Unity Water.
To address the capacity problems associated with excess sludge, sludge thickening/dewatering facilities were proposed.
The upgrade is expected to improve the plant’s output capacity and its reliability as a water source for the community.
Construction commenced in January 2014 and was completed in December 2014.
