The Level Crossing Removal Project: Caulfield to Dandenong (CTD) was a large-scale complex project encompassing the removal of nine level crossings on Melbourne’s busiest train line.

To address trepidation from communities and stakeholders about its elevated design, Aurecon and its Alliance partners used innovative digital solutions and genuine community and stakeholder engagement to reimagine the relationship between large scale infrastructure and public amenity.

The project delivered improved community and commuter safety, reduced rail travel times, and improved traffic flow from less road congestion. At the same time, enhanced opportunities were created for retail, community sport and social interaction through new urban plazas, as well as 22 hectares of parkland and open space.
